Assembling Neo-Geo MV1C Plates

Warning!

  • This is acrylic and plastic. Hands and screwdriver ONLY. Use power tools and something will break or strip.
  • The protective film covering the acrylic sheet may (will) cause a charge when removed. Touch something metal that’s not your MVS before you start handling the system. Nothing should happen but i’m not responsible if it does.
  • Acrylic is plastic. So it will scratch. So I would avoid sharp objects around the acrylic (screws) until you’re ready for them.

Step 1

Remove the black plastic cover that came with the MV1C. Now would be a great time to clean your board and/or replace the battery. (Yes, yes, my PCB needs both done immediately)

Find the 4 small round 11mm spacers. Remove the screw and washer from each.

Attach each of the 4 to one of the 4 corners of the PCB. Screws on top with plastic spacer below the PCB. Note, leave the screws a little loose. This will give some wiggle when attaching the plates.

Now find the pill shaped spacers and attach to either side of the Cart slot connector as shown below. Again, don’t over tighten the screws. A little wiggle is good at this point.

Step 2

Next find the 1/4″ acrylic base plate and remove the outer protective film. Use a fingernail to help remove the covering. Using anything metal instead might scratch the acrylic

Depending on your area the acrylic sheet may have some static electricity. It’s best to remove the charge before handling the PCB.

Line up the holes on the plate with the spacers. Then look for the 2 round feet matching the photos below and find 4 of the 1/2″ screws.

Attach the screws to the printed foot. Making sure to take advantage of the recessed holes.

Attach to the pill shaped spacer on the other side of the acrylic plate. Repeat for the 2nd cart slot spacer.

Now find the tear drop shaped leg and let’s attach to the front to spacers (side with the jamma edge)

At this point the MV1C pcb is supported in both the front and back. Personally I leave the back two spacers as is. They give extra support when a cart is inserted but no feet are necessary. The hardware bag includes an extra set just in case.

Next, find the 4 large spacers. They should already have 4 black screws attach. Remove the screws for now.

Take a tear dropped shaped plastic foot and attach one of the 1/2″ screws.

With the PCB upside down attach the foot and spacer together with the acrylic base in between.

Continue with all 4 corners.

Flip the system over on to the newly attached plastic feet. This would also be a great time to go back around and tighten all screws.

Step 3

Find the 2 top plate sheets

Remove the protective cover from all sides. Again make sure to remove any static created by this process. Once ready, stack the clear sheet with logos on top of the colored sheet.

Be prepared to do some cleaning. As the newly uncovered sheets of acrylic are going to attract dust and hair.

Find those 4 black screws you removed from the large spacers earlier.

Place the acrylic sheets on top of the spacers. Lining up the holes. Attach the acrylic sheet with the 4 screws. DO NOT over tighten as you could crack the acrylic.

If you see a weird effect in the acrylic around the screws it’s a good sign you’re too tight. Back off the screw until it disappears. See examples below.

Enjoy! The build is complete.
